Zookeeping

In highschool, I volunteered my time at a zoo that had many resident animals in addition to a wildlife rehabilitation program.
I fed the animals, cleaned their exhibits, and did enrichment programs with them. I also managed other students who worked at the zoo and made sure all animals received proper care.
I also sometimes went to elementary schools with other zoo staff to educate kids about the animals, and assisted with hosting elementary school tours at the zoo.
Volunteer Work

In my free time before and during college, I volunteered at various animal shelters that featured domesticated animals such as dogs and cats, and also at farm and equestrian animal sanctuaries.
I helped the animals feel comfortable around human presence, did enrichment with them outside, and helped organize and maintain the cleanliness of the animals' living quarters. This was an incredibly rewarding experience to help animals heal and find good homes.
Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education with Birds of Prey

I've travelled all over to schools, nature centers, and museums to educate the public about birds of prey and wildlife conservation. I've handled educational birds including endangered species on a glove during presentations to the public.
I've helped care for the animals I've worked with by feeding them and cleaning their living quarters. For animals undergoing wildlife rehabilitation, I've assisted with administering any necessary treatments and therapies. I've also helped come up with enrichment ideas for resident birds, and helped release rehabilitated wild birds back to the wild.
